Building on Faith

Building on Faith is Habitat for Humanity's annual week to emphasize church partnerships. It is a time when people of faith are urged to get out of their pews to put their faith into action. Churches around the world join together during the week to pray for those without adequate shelter and to build homes with families in need of simple, decent housing.

In addition to providing hope and dignity for new homeowners, Building on Faith encourages people to put aside their differences and pick up hammers to bring healing and hope to communities. Every Habitat home that your church builds serves as a lasting reminder of God's love.

Engage Your Church!

By involving your church you are putting your faith and love into action in a meaningful and powerful way. Each Habitat home that your church builds or helps build serves as a lasting reminder of God's grace. Within and among congregations, people experience a strong sense of unity and purpose when together they reach out to their neighbors in need.

How your congregation can help:

  • Pray for the work of Habitat for Humanity and families in need throughout Canada
  • Spread the word about Habitat to families in need
  • Sponsor a Home
  • Make a cash donation
  • Offer in-kind goods and services
  • Gather members of the congregation to volunteer on the building site (no experience necessary)
  • Provide meals and snacks for workers during a build project
  • Invite a Habitat representative to speak at your church to increase awareness
Participate in Our Local Faith Relations Committee

Our Build 2006 requires support from the faith community!
We must continue to build for the families in Nova Scotia who are living in inadequate shelter.

We are currently seeking members for our Faith Relations Committee. This committee seeks to strengthen the support of the affiliate’s work by gaining volunteers, prayer, and financial resources from all community churches. The committee will work in partnership with churches by extending the opportunity for members to engage in ministry by becoming involved with Habitat for Humanity.
