Build Volunteer Roles
Crew Leaders
Crew Leaders (CL) are responsible for leading a team of volunteers to complete assigned tasks in a safe manner. A team is typically four to six volunteers with little or no construction skills or experience. CL demonstrate tasks, maintain standards, monitor safety and help to ensure a meaningful experience for volunteers. CL are required to have some experience with construction and / or with Habitat build sites and must be willing to commit a minimum of 5 shifts on the build site. Training is available. New CL may be asked to spend a day as a team member or a shadow Crew Leader before assuming full Crew Leader responsibilities.
NOTE: Participation in an annual orientation session is mandatory for all new and returning crew leaders. This mandatory session will be offered with several different time options.
General Build Volunteers
Build volunteers work on a variety of tasks as assigned by the construction manager. Our volunteers work on all stages of a home build with the exception of areas requiring certified tradesmen (ex. roofing, plumbing, electrical). No experience is required. Daily orientation / training is provided and all tools are supplied. Build volunteers will typically work in teams with each group led by an experienced Crew Leader.
Site Support
The Site Support Team is responsible to set up and manage the site, register daily volunteers, organize people, refreshments and materials - and generally support the day-to-day on-site operations. Shifts are available from 8:00 - 1:00 each build day.
Current First Aid certification is an asset for any of these positions.
If you are interested in learning more about any of these onsite positions or in off-site support, contact Mary Elizabeth at volunteer@habitathrm.com.
