CELEBRATE EARTH DAY AT THE RESTORE EVERY DAY
While Earth Day acts as an annual reminder to take an active role in protecting and preserving the environment, the Habitat for Humanity HRM ReStore provides the opportunity to celebrate earth day and they environment all year round.
Each year, the 61 ReStores across the country together divert thousands of tonnes of waste from Canadian landfills, including 15,000 tonnes of material in 2009 alone. By accepting and reselling quality new and used home products from consumers, as well as end-of-line, scratch-and-dent, discontinued inventory, paint mis-tints and customer returns from retailers and manufacturers, ReStores ensure products are reused rather than wasted. On top of helping the environment, ReStores also help deserving families own a home of their own – proceeds from Habitat HRM's ReStore support operations and help provide safe, decent, affordable housing to families in Nova Scotia.
Consumers can expect to find materials such as windows, doors, paint, hardware, lumber, tools, lighting fixtures and even a variety of unusual treasures at the HRM ReStore. Shoppers are encouraged to visit the store regularly, as new items arrive daily. Whether you are looking to put a fresh coat of paint on your front door, or dispose of their old kitchen sink, the HRM ReStore is the perfect location to source and donate materials. Get the job done and be satisfied knowing that your home renovation product or project not only improved the aesthetics of their home, but also saved you money AND helped the environment. Now that is reason to celebrate - every day!
What is a ReStore?
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are building supply stores that accept and resell quality new and used building materials. They generate funds to support Habitat's building programs, while reducing the amount of used materials that are headed for overflowing landfills. They are an environmentally friendly store that makes sense. There are currently 61 ReStore locations across Canada with at least one in every province, with the exception of Newfoundland and Labrador.
ReStores sell used and surplus building materials as well as kitchen cabinets, furniture and major appliances at a fraction of retail prices. Shop at the ReStore for quality materials at 25%-75% of the original cost PLUS pay NO TAX!!!!
Why support the ReStore?
Community Support
Proceeds from the ReStore fund the affiliate as well as the construction of Habitat homes in the community.
Waste Reduction in Action
In addition to raising funds, ReStores help the environment by diverting thousands of tons of usable materials away from already overflowing landfills.
Habitat ReStores offer a practical response to the current landfill crisis. Stores and manufacturers can donate end-of-line, scratch and dent, old stock and customer returns that might otherwise be sent to landfills. In 2007, Habitat ReStores diverted over 630 tons of materials from the landfill!!
Customer value
Serving as a “thrift-shop” for reusable materials, the ReStore offers a great place to purchase good, resalable building materials at very reasonable prices. You never know what you will find.
